Making movies is hard work and what better seal of approval for our local set-serving restaurateurs than personal visits from the stars themselves?
Here are five takeout restaurants in Toronto that have gotten the golden thumbs-up from some of the biggest names around town.
With a group of friends in tow while filming See, Season 2, Jason Momoa had nothing but great things to say about the High Level eats of Ozzy’s Burgers in Kensington Market.
Taking the biggest bites into a burg made from a mix of lamb and beef, Momoa had told owner Ozzy himself he planned on coming back to try the rest of the menu.
Ozzy also has locations in Vaughan and Mississauga.

Animal Liberation Kitchen
A hotspot for the vegans and plant-based lovers of Toronto’s Riverside/Leslieville neighbourhoods, Animal Liberation Kitchen was surprised with a visit from film star couple Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara.
Food from ALK had been discreetly ordered the previous day and picked up by a studio rep who didn’t mention which stars the meals were for. The visit from Phoenix and Mara came the following day as they wanted to thank the restaurant themselves for their efforts, even donning a Toronto Pig Save shirt during the occasion.
Their order? Smokey Mac and Cheese with Kimchi, Spiced Chickpea Avocado Sandwich, Chilli and a Loaded Veggie Wrap.

Ssangkye Braised Chicken House
K-Pop AND pizza lovers, rejoice. Megastar group BTS have a favourite Toronto location, and dish, you’ll want to get your hands on for takeout.
Ordering “enough food for 12 people” at a time when dine-in was still permitted, the owner of the Korean Ssangkye Braised Chicken House had no idea it was a celebrity group enjoying his signature Honey Garlic Pizza and other dishes during what was a two-hour visit while the band had been exploring Ontario.
BTS’ video of their adventure was soon uploaded online, including a segment of their stop at Ssangkye, thrilling the restaurateur and the surrounding public.

Grabbing a bite in the midst of filming the latest edition of SAW, Samuel L Jackson paid a visit to gourmet Thai restaurant Mengrai Thai, and it wasn’t his first or last!
Jackson has been a repeat customer at the establishment.
Other celebrity fans of Chef Sasi Meechai’s cuisine include John Travolta, The Weeknd, Mick Jagger and Umbrella Academy star Robert Sheehan.
Popular orders include Sasi’s Pad Thai and Pineapple Fried Rice.

On same “See” work visit to Toronto, Jason Momoa (star)struck again with a visit to Legal Tenders, a hidden Vegas-themed joint inside Parkdale’s Shameful Tiki.
All smiles after trying their house-blend, hand-breaded crispy chicken, Momoa walked away with lunch and a Legal Tenders tee.
