5 New Flavour Trends Across Canadian Craft Breweries

The arrival of warm weather and cloudless skies have craft breweries across Canada experimenting with summer flavour trends. Whether you’re looking forward to getting back out in the woods or just lazing in the sun, these new craft beers are perfect to grab and go for those nights around the campfire or picnics at the park.

33 Acres (Vancouver, BC)

The summery flavours of this gose-style ale are designed to transport you to the sun-drenched beaches of Mexico. Think zesty lime balanced with Vancouver Island salt and smokey mezcal for a bright and refreshingly tart beer. The Mezcal Gose is conveniently available in six-pack form for easy transport, but you’ll almost want to pour this pale gold goodness into salt-rimmed margarita glasses for a beachy experience.

The Establishment (Calgary, AB)

What began as a brewery in the basement of a home shared by a group of friends is now one of Calgary’s favourite craft breweries. The Establishment’s newest addition to their lineup of beers is the Catharina Sour-style Marmalade Skies. This fruited sour ale comes in at 6.2% ABV and features flavours of apricot and orange zest. True to its name, Marmalade Skies imparts a clean tartness balanced by a fresh fruitiness.

Eastbound Brewing Company (Toronto, ON)

Drawing inspiration from a bike ride through the Belgian countryside, this Belgian-style Saison features juniper berries, orange, and lemon peels for a bright and bold taste. The spiciness from the coriander and cardamom shine through and give the Electro Tonic an unexpected level of depth — a real twist on a classic summertime beer.

Kichesippi Beer Company (Ottawa, ON)

The new Golden Spiral by Kichesippi Beer promises spring in a can. This dandelion pale ale was a result of the brewery hosting their very first honeybee hive in 2019 when they learned about the role dandelions play in keeping a healthy bee population. Edible from root to flower, the brewmasters at Kichesippi Beer played with parts of the dandelion to create this distinctly earthy brew with bitter flavours balanced by a sweet finish. Address: 2265 Robertson Rd, Nepean, ON. @kichesippibeer

Sookram’s Brewing (Winnipeg, MB)

This family-owned craft brewery recently released Laugh Track, a hoppy pale ale with vibrant notes of passion fruit, citrus, and berries. Pouring a deep gold, this easy-drinking pale ale clocks in at 5.4% ABV. Laugh Track’s combination of Cascade and Southern Passion hops give this beer a delicate hop flavour and a refreshingly crisp finish.
