BC Egg and Turkey Farmers Raise $181,763 for Union Gospel Mission
BC Egg and Turkey Farmers’ annual golf tournament to raise funds for the Union Gospel Mission (UGM) raised its highest amount ever at $181,763.04. The funds raised by the golf tournament will be used primarily to supply UGM with nutritious eggs and turkey meat for their community kitchen as well as the Fraser Valley Mobile Mission, a program that provides food, drinks, hygiene items, and information on community resources in the Fraser Valley.
“At UGM, we serve approximately 800 meals a day. Our motto, ‘Hope Begins with a Meal’ is a reflection of the transformation that begins when someone experiences love and care,” says Stan Carmody, Manager Corporate and Foundations at UGM. “Thanks to all of your support, we are not only able to continue providing fresh and nutritious meals, but we are also able to continue to reach more of our community in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. Your support is greatly appreciated by not only everyone here at UGM, but our entire community. From the bottom of all our hearts, thank you!”
The 2023 golf tournament attracted over 150 golfers and sponsors and was held at the Chilliwack Golf Club. BC Egg is a non-profit organization representing 150 registered egg farmers throughout BC, and BC Turkey represents 59 registered turkey farmers in British Columbia.
“Farmers love the fact that they grow healthy food for British Columbians,” says Bodo Goetzke, egg farmer and member of the golf tournament organizing committee. “Farmers know how important a tasty, nutritious meal is to people who are unhoused, fighting addiction, or just generally in a bad place. A hot meal can kick start a positive change in that person’s life.”
