5 Top Cookie Spots in Toronto

Written by Deepi Harish

Eating freshly baked cookies is an instant mood booster. Sweet, salty, chewy, crispy — all the textures are available, sometimes all in one cookie.

Toronto has no shortage of places to grab full-flavoured cookies; however, we’ve rounded up our top five takeout cookie spots that are a must-try for a cookie lover.

The Night Baker

With a rotating menu of cookie flavours, The Night Baker always keeps things fresh and exciting. What makes these cookies unique is that they’re pillowy soft with a melty surprise inside.

Their signature flavours include roasted pistachios with matcha and white chocolate, cheesecake and campfire s’mores. Seasonal flavours currently on the menu include key lime pie and guava cookie dough filled with Valrhona passionfruit chocolate.

Le Gourmand

Everyone comes here for the signature chocolate chip cookie (or chocolate walnut cookie). It’s warm, big and buttery. What makes them stand out is that they have that crisp on the outside and a perfect chew on the inside with glistening dark chocolate seeping through. This cookie has even won awards!

It’s no secret that they’re one of the best in the city, which means they sell out fast, even though they’re baked daily. If you’re able to snag one, consider yourself lucky. It really is the OG classic chocolate chip cookie.

Almond Butterfly

Almond Butterfly is known for making the best 100% gluten-free baked goods in the city. Beyond the dozen cupcake flavours and pastries they offer, the bakery has grown into a full-out restaurant with two locations, but we still haven’t forgotten about their cookies.

They sell five varieties–chocolate chunk, chocolate chip, peanut butter, pecan and breakfast. Most of these cookies are also dairy-free and/or vegan and you wouldn’t even know it. Their cookies have a crunchy crust not just around the edges, but with every bite and a chewy interior. Also, the cookies are oversized and we’re not complaining.

Address: 792 Dundas Street West (near Trinity Bellwoods) and 100 Harbord Street. @almondbutterflycafe

Maman

Maman is a bakery café with locations all over New York, as well as one in Toronto and Montreal. They’re known for their giant nutty chocolate chip cookies. Oprah even featured them on her favourite things in 2017.

It’s really five ingredients that make them special; the dark chocolate wafers (instead of chips), whole salted almonds, walnuts, macadamia nuts and the amount of mineral salt they use. Their cookies are just as salty as they are sweet. When you break into them you see whole nuts and pools of chocolate which is irresistible.

Bobbette & Belle

The top-selling cookie at Bobette and Belle is their fleur de sel cookie. It’s an intense dark chocolate cookie balanced with fleur de sel in every bit.

In fact, salt naturally enhances flavour, in this case bringing out the subtleties in the chocolate without any bitterness. Adding fleur de sel is also a tradition in French baking. These cookies have the texture of a biscotti but softer. Plus, you can really taste the quality of the ingredients.

Address: 1121 Queen St E and 3347 Yonge St. @bobbetteandbelle
