Belleville’s Downtown Memorial Marketplace Is a Food Destination
Something is happening in downtown Belleville.
Over the past few years new businesses are opening, familiar spaces are being reimagined and there’s a renewed energy around the city’s downtown core. One of the places helping drive that change is Memorial Marketplace — the redevelopment of Belleville’s former Memorial Arena into a growing collection of local businesses, services and, increasingly, places to eat.

And for us at Canada Takeout, that last part caught our attention.
Benji’s Coffee Bar
If there is an OG at MMP (Memorial Market Place as the locals call it) is Benji’s Coffee Bar, bringing coffee, baked goods and an easy daytime stop to the Marketplace. The team is really fun.

But coffee is just the beginning.
One Eyed Jack
Today, you can head to Memorial Marketplace and find everything from Indian food to chicken wings and pub favourites at One Eyed Jack, with more food concepts continuing to join the mix.

Canteen, a new gastropub concept that will add another reason to make Memorial Marketplace a food stop .
That variety is what makes the Marketplace interesting.
Memorial Canteen & Beer Garden
Rather than trying to be one restaurant or one type of dining experience, MPP is gradually becoming a collection of food options at one historic area. Coffee in the morning. Lunch on the go. Indian food for dinner. Wings for game night. And soon, gastropub fare from Canteen.
It also arrives at an interesting time for Belleville.
Like many Ontario communities, Belleville’s downtown has gone through periods of change. Today, new investment, independent businesses and the reuse of existing buildings are helping bring people back downtown. Memorial Marketplace fits naturally into that story.
Only now, food is becoming part of the reason to visit.
For Canada Takeout, we’ll be spending some time at MMP secretly exploring the different food businesses, most importantly, figuring out what you should order when you’re looking for great takeout in Belleville.
